Since 1990, a new form of diversification has been pursued with fish leather production.

  At the Tannerie de Callac the idea of conducting research on tanning fish skins was first developed in August 1989. Indeed, the growing field of processed fish products (fileting, smoked fish, pre-cooked dishes) provided an unexploited by-product: fish skin.

  The studies were successful, and as of 1991 a leather goods range made from salmon skin was perfected.

  From 1992 to 1994 : an ANVAR research programme was implemented for other types of fish skin (ling, Nile river perch).

  Today, our research unit investigates the potential of new skins and their availability worldwide.
